Just diagnosed with COPD?
The bare bones basics:
Start by learning gain all the knowledge you can about your disease. Google
any word you don' t understand. Read reliable medical websites, don' t go for
the miracle everything is fixed snake oil websites.
And by all means, go out and have some FUN, you can do it. I will join my friends above in the next Gorilla Run in Denver on Halloween. I will walk the 5K no pressure for speed to cover the 3.1 miles. Folks ride bikes, use skateboards, strollers and wheel chairs...lots of fun, and no one frowns if you don' t finish, it is just great that you start and try... find a charity event in your area.

If you get depressed, that is positively NORMAL, and you are entitled to it
for a while, get HELP, then move on to living with COPD. You can have a
good quality of life if you work at it.

Get MOVING!
Move towards exercise even though that sounds crazy. Move a little
more/longer each day.barring other serious medical issues. Get sent to
pulmonary rehab to learn more and be helped to improve your fitness.

Find medications that work for you. Work closely with your doctor or
medical team to find something else, if one med doesn' t work. If they are
condescending or rude, or won' t talk, try another doctor, preferably a
pulmonalogist.

This is just a beginning.it is impossible to answer millions of questions.but the side list is there to look up many of them on reputable and up to date websites along with the few listed above which is just a starting point. It takes months and years to rehab fitness, and to learn about this disease. Then, treatments are rapidly changing and sometimes old information remains in print.and it can be a myth or inaccurate without empirical evidence. Always check the date of information you research.
Quit the guessing, what may happen to one individual is not a prescription for everyone.Listening to one patient suggest to hundreds that their experience fits everyone is not only foolish but reckless & it could be dangerous. It is alarming how many in support groups keep alive the old myth of CO2 being hurt by more oxygen. This happens because they find OLD information still in the text books, Go to updated reliable sources only.

Findings now prove it is more beneficial to over oxygenate than too little O2. Check it out with Dr. Petty in his booklet Oximeter Guide [link to get one listed below].
