Those of us with COPD unfortunately don't have many surgical options. Lung Volume Reduction Surgery is one of the few available to us. The only others that I'm aware of are bullectomy and lung transplantation (if anyone knows of any others, please comment and let me know!). There are also clinical trials underway for LVRS using valves, which is one of the trials I hope to get into.
I found this video of the Lung Volume Reduction Surgery and thought I'd share this information with you. Warning though, this video shows a true procedure so if you get queasy very easily, you might not want to watch it. The actual procedure starts at about 7 minutes into the video.
