Living Well with Lung Disease -- You Can Do This!

Posted Oct 07 2009 8:02am

Have you been told you have COPD, Emphysema, or another chronic lung disease such as Pulmonary Fibrosis? If you have, you might be wondering,

·      What do I do now?

·      Am I going to die?

·      Will my breathing just get worse and worse?

·      Will I ever be the same again?

·      How can anybody understand what I'm going through?

Maybe your doctor has told you about your disease, what you can expect, and all about your options for treatment, staying healthy, and living a full life. I hope that’s the case. However, knowing what I do, chances are you’ve been given some bad news, a prescription for inhalers, and not a whole lot of reason to hope for living a long and active life. Well, before you become too downhearted, take a look at some of the great sites with lung information and support.

I promise…you’ll find information you can use and support you can count on. Most of all, you’ll make new friends who have walked this road before and are here to tell you that you CAN do this!

Here’s a start…

Four good reasons you CAN to this!

1.) This is not a death sentence!

You can live long and healthy with COPD. With proper care and treatment, you can live many years – and your new life starts today.

2.) There’s more help than ever.

Thanks to the magic of the internet, there’s lots of information and support for people with COPD and other chronic lung diseases. Of course, we’re biased, but its no secret that BBLW is one of the best!

3.) Medications and treatment are improving.

Not all that long ago, treatment for COPD consisted of: A couple different pills and inhalers that had some nasty side effects – and inactivity. Ugh! Thank goodness – times have changed! Today there are more effective medications with fewer side effects, less invasive procedures to help your lungs move more air, and life-changing pulmonary rehabilitation programs.

4.) You’ve got us! You are not alone!

Why struggle on your own when they’re here to help? Take a look at all the collective wisdom shared on lung education and support sites. Become a part of the community. If you read the information forums and don’t post, you’ll learn a lot and feel better. If you jump in and participate, you’ll feel a whole lot better!

Welcome, my friends to healthier, happier, and easier breathing!

You are not alone. You CAN do this! We're here to help.
