June 07, 2009 Patient perspective -RESPIRONICS PHILLIPS liquid oxygen system

Posted Jun 07 2009 10:04pm

Hi folks, may you all have a fabulous Sunday!

Yahoo has notified me they are closing down all Yahoo 360 blog' s, to change to some other set up. I have been unable as they directto transfer all my 900 plus pages to be ready for the new site, I have slowly and tediously saved each page manually, a truly massive task. I didn' t want to lose individual' s stories, and wanted to be able to reuse helpful information, the material which will be old perhaps for some of you, but fresh to some new visitors, and we can always use some review. I don' t know what the new url/link will be, but I sure hope they provide a transfer over to it after this one is closed down. That will happen onJuly 12. If you "lose" me, try googling Roxlyn G Coleand look there for new web link names, probably something like COPD-LUNG+RehabI am playing with names in my head, like having a new baby. Should you want to be sure to get the new site I will notify you, if you email me your requestatroxlyngcd@comcast.netthe photo above - the little purse size liquid oxygen portable sitting on the coffee table at American Medical Sales & Repair lobby, where I was learning more about oxygen products. on my back/hip is a Caire Spirit 300, and on the Floor a new model Caire High Flow LOX 1-15 L )

And now, about The Phillips Respironics GoLox liquid oxygen portablefrom my view point as a patient in need of supplemental oxygen 24/7.(specs shown yesterday)

WHAT a DELIGHTFUL, well designed & thought out product.the GoLox, is especially good for those who want a' really small/compact and light weight system, those with shoulder problems or unable to carry a larger portable, yet still on lower flows.Hey I love it too, for exactly that reason, the small snug fitting light weight is almost a delight to wear, but after 5 hours I am ready to go on the long tubes at home.

It is a ttractive AND it works beautifully, without the problems of previous small unit designs. It uses a single lumen tube thus good for use with a TTO, no need for a battery, improved internal works so it automatically stops when filled - no guess work, and no propensity to freeze up. 30-40 seconds, it is full. .

It alsoHOLDS its O2a long time when not in use - which was an unexpected nice feature that I discovered when I switched to another tank for exercise, and could go back to using it the duration of usingseems incredible to me,because I need to use it mostly on the top pulse flow of 4 liters / minute. With 20 breaths per minute it held me for more than the 5 hours. I turn it down when sitting or driving and that measurably extends the duration of use. .

The carry case is well designed, even has a zip to close pocket. A nice handle for the unit without case, a good security clip handle when in the case, and a very adjustable waist belt for wearing like a fanny pack or side holster fashion. The belt can click on to the case clip and becomes an over the shoulder strap. For strenuous exertion I do require higher flows of oxygen,so this machine alone doesn' t meet all of my needs, but for the person needing only 4L at the most, it is quite wonderful. There are6 pulse settingsstarting with 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 & 4 L. andalso it has a constant flow of 2L.

Wearing this portable while using a cannula> the pulse is quiet, hardly noticeable set on 2.5, and on 2L, my husband sitting next to me can' t hear it, then at 3 & 4 it becomes audible, but not loud. It is especially comfortable for wearing with a TTO (transtracheal oxygen delivery system-tube into the neck), as I have. Below 2.5 pulsing, I hardly feel it in my neck, and don' t feel it at all - at 1or 2.5L. It isREALLY great with a tto. Some portables feel like thumper in the neck.

Respironics Philips Liquid Oxygen System > GoLox for your travel needs877-873-6994American Medical Sales & Repair will give you a price for this really neat portable liquid oxygen device over the telephone, ask for their sale price of the day elsewhere it costs over $1200. Theirspecs page: http://www.portableoxygenconcentrators.com/Go_Lox_Liquid_Oxygen.html. or onhttp://global.respironics.com/ the GoLox link is under New products right side of that page.

Remember this GoLox is delivering at 5500 ft altitude in my testing. At sea level I might get by with no supplemental oxygen for sitting and ambling in the house. .. Sea level is where I think the GoLox would be superb for me,

As it is, here at 5500 ft altitude around Denver Colorado, it worked great for me for meetings/shopping/around home slow activities, but because of my particular propensity to walk very fast it doesn' t hold ME, for heavy fast exertion. I checked it out on my treadmill in order to see what speed it will hold my sats at my comfort level of 93% and above. It was good at 2 mph for me. I think this GoLox would be perfect for someone using routine flow at levels 2.5 L and under, then they would still have the capacity to raise it for more strenuous activities up to 3 & 4 L. For harder exertion over 3 mph...to walk a mile in 15 minutes, -my crazy lungs need 12-15 liters. Then - - I must use a constant flow Caire Hi Flow Lox portable. Having both tanks gives the best of both worlds, a small one for small jobs and the big one for hard work. Thanks to these companies for allowing me to test out this product, Testing products is my new passion in life...that and walking.
. I have no financial interest with Respironics Phillips Co., or American Medical Sales & Repair. They both have treated me quickly, courteously, and more than satisfactorily as a customer.

. Everyone is so different, this is why one MUST TRY all equipment before they buy....Scroll down to yesterdays page for a picture and spec sheet.
