you maybreathe in through your mouth,if you have nasal congestion, or a deviated septum, then out through pursed/tightened lips. The idea is to obtain some back pressure on the out breathe, you don' t evenhave to purseyour lips ---just hold tightened lips to resist the out flow. I sort of keep the lips in a semi-firm line of resistance. Hope this post finally works.
