I had decided a week ago to make the main topic of this week’s
newsletter on tips on how to beat the heat with COPD, as many
areas are enduring unusually high temperatures over long
periods. I was about to change the subject when I read e-mails
on the list from those offering tips on dealing with hot, humid
weather. However, I decided to repeat the topic for those not on
the list and for others who had trouble opening certain links.
I really don’t believe us COPDers can “beat the heat,” but there
are thing we can do to help us live in harmony with the
sweltering heat. I stay in a lot and do my errands early in the
morning. The key for me is my attitude, as I can tend to get
melancholy watching everyone outside having fun, boating,
swimming and racing around on jet skis.
I continually need to give myself permission to rest and take
care of myself, ever reminding myself I can still enjoy life
from a positive “indoor” perspective.
