Another Benifit of Exercise: Reduced Arterial Stiffness for COPD Patients
Posted Mar 12 2010 9:21am
Blood pressure and arterial stiffness are positively influenced by endurance exercise training in patients with COPD, according to research out of France.
Investigators recruited patients with moderate-to-severe COPD, having them cycle 5 times a week for 4 weeks. The duration of each session increased from a mean of 18 minutes per session at baseline up to a mean of 30 minutes at the end of the training program. Training intensity increased from an average of 38% of peak work rate at baseline up to an average of 65% of peak workload at the end of training.
