What's normal?

Posted Sep 29 2008 9:44pm

"Oh, I just have the normal amount of anxiety."

"I just have the  normal-type headaches."

"I just have the normal digestive problems that my whole family has. It's not a big deal."

What's normal? There is no normal. Everyone is different.

Some people have never had a headache in their whole life. Other people think the idea of digestive problems is strange -- they've never experienced them, or very rarely do. "Some people have that everyday?" they ask me.

So before you write off your health issues as normal, and tell yourself to be more grateful and stop complaining because you are not living on the street or staving, realize that there is no normal. Normal for one person is abnormal for another.

Also realize that the symptoms that your body is experiencing are signals --- your body is sending you signals that something is wrong. And I know that everyone's body appreciates it when it is listened to.

Your body is not concerned with what other people are and are not doing. Your body wants it to be as healthy and strong as it can be so that you can be as vital as you can be and do your best in this world.
