As with martial arts there are many style of acupuncture. I practice Classical Five Element Acupuncture, which is strongly based in nature. The seasons are one example of the five elements in nature. As the energy (Qi) moves from spring (upward) to summer (outward) to late summer to fall (downward) to winter (inward), this same flow of energy is represented in us, on a daily, monthly, yearly basis. When this flow is blocked that is when symptoms occur.
