What Are the Reflexology Pressure Points?

Posted Oct 13 2010 4:37pm
Do you suffer from various health issues? Do you have constant headaches or stress? You may benefit from reflexology. Before you get started, however, you need to know about the reflexology pressure points. This information is essential, because without knowing the proper pressure points, and the proper techniques, reflexology will do you little good.

where are the reflexology pressure points

Understanding Reflexology

Reflexology is a massage technique. Pressure is applied to the feet or the hands, at specific points, to help alleviate specific problems. This massage technique is done by professionals, but it is also something that you can do for yourself. This method of massage helps to alleviate numerous problems, including neck and back problems, migraine headaches, stress and tension, and other ailments.

In the practice of reflexology, each pressure point in the hands and feet is ‘attached’ to a specific part of the body, including muscles and organs. Luckily, you don’t have to memorize all of these points to practice reflexology.

Make Use of Reflexology Charts

You can easily obtain reflexology charts through the Reflexology Association of America at http://www.reflexology-usa.org/ . There are also really nice, interactive reflexology charts available at http://www.reflexologycharts.org/ . These charts will show you exactly where pressure should be applied, and which part of the body is connected to that pressure point. Ideally, you should use a chart that you can print out for easy reference.

Learn the Technique

The technique sounds very simple, but some people aren’t sure as to how much pressure should be applied or for how long. A chart won’t give you this information. This is a good reason to make at least one visit to a professional, licensed reflexologist. During this one session, you can easily see how the pressure is applied to the foot or hand, and how long the pressure is applied. This is the best way to learn reflexology. Although this is a service that you can perform for yourself, you may find that reflexology services are not only beneficial and relaxing, but also quite affordable.

On the charts, you will notice that certain points cover the same areas of the body in multiples. For example, a certain point on each toe represents the sinuses. In order to get the full benefit of reflexology, all of those points must have pressure applied to them – but it can be one at a time. It is important to not only realize this, but to learn it as well so that you get the results that you want.
