In short, probiotics are symbiotic bacteria that live in your gut and confer healthy properties to your body.  Everybody has about 3 pounds of bacteria in their gut, and most of it is healthful.  These bacteria balance your immune system, fight off pathogens, and strenghten the lining of your gi barrier.  Probiotics help facilitate these healthy organisms in doing their jobs.
