Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil

Posted Jun 25 2012 11:11am

Coconut Oil is a product that I have consistently used in my clean eating arsenal for the past few years. I have tried various brands to find one with the best flavor and most value. I use coconut oil in many of my cooking adventures, my skin and hair care routine, as well as for its many health benefits.

Recently, I was generously offered a sample of Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil to try. My experience with the other products I have ordered from their site: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com has been very favorable, so I was anxious to try their newest product offering. If you are not familiar with their wonderful coconut products, it’s worth the visit. I have ordered their coconut cream concentrate and oils for many years.

Disclaimer: Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and per their instructions I was under No Obligation to review it, if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

Shortly after the Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil arrived, my family and I decided to make one of our favorite dishes, vegetable stir-fry. As, I am a vegetarian and my family is not, I also decided to cook some organic chicken breasts with our meal. I must say that the gold label coconut oil had a wonderful, but subtle coconut flavor straight out of the jar and melted so quickly and clearly, without the usual clouding that I have seen in other brands of coconut oil.  Our stir-fry turned out superb, with the Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil adding an extra, favorable flavor dynamic that was not expected. The chicken breast browned beautifully and according to my family, had wonderful flavor profile from the oil. I also made an incredible dressing for a fruit salad that included the coconut oil, pineapple juice and lime juice; with a pinch of cayenne pepper. Truly a winner for a summer treat or to take to a family event. I would highly recommend that this be your coconut oil of choice!

Below is a link to a video that shows an interview of Tropical Traditions CEO Brian Shilhavy explaining how he and his wife, Marianita, discovered virgin coconut oil during the years they lived on Mt. Banahaw in the Philippines.

Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil

On Marianita’s family homestead, the Shilhavy family resurrected an almost-forgotten method for making hand-crafted virgin coconut oil used for centuries by native Filipinos. From their Philippine homestead, the Shilhavy family was the first to export virgin coconut oil from the Philippines to the United States, where they found consumers eager for a handcrafted, organic, virgin coconut oil.

Shilhavy explains in the video how their Gold Label brand is still made the traditional way by hand, is a certified organic coconut oil, and has been tested to contain the highest amounts of antioxidants among all other brands of virgin coconut oil in the Philippines.
