When you are preparing to make a gem water or essence, choose a cleansed and washed sample of crystal. Members of the quartz family such as carnelian and similar harder minerals are ideal. Avoid very soft, water-soluble or potentially toxic minerals. Once you have made your gem water or essence, pour the water into a more permanent container such as an amber glass bottle and preserve it with either alcohol or cider vinegar.
To makegem water, place the crystal in a clean, plain glass or bowl and cover with spring water. Leave overnight and drink in the morning or take sips throughout the day.
To make gem essence, place the stone in a clear glass bowl, cover it with spring water and put it in direct sunlight for at least 2 hours. This imprints the quality of the mineral on the water.
You can rub a drop of essence or gem water on pulse points for healing energy, or a few drops to drinking water. Drink gem water within a day, while gem essences can be kept for much longer.
