The Ultimate GTD Web Application–ToodleDo

Posted Dec 09 2008 9:17pm

Get It Done I’ve recognized a shortfall in my life; I’m unorganized in some areas.  I’ve been researching several GTD options.  What I wanted was the ultimate GTD web application.

A few stood out.  Remember the Milk had some advantages with being able to tweet my tasks.  It has a mobile interface.  Besides, the cow is just too cute.  What it didn’t have was subtasks and a context interface like the GTD method uses.

I wanted something portable.  I tried MyLifeOrganized, which was great as a desktop program.  I could make it portable with an installation on a USB drive.  With my Blackberry, however, I wanted it to be accessible on my phone.  Enter ToodleDo.

Besides being like many run-of-the-mill to do lists, I can create projects with context and next actions.  I can list tasks with subtasks.  It has Twitter and Firefox support.  I can view and add from my phone.  It also has another feature that other programs like Remember the Milk don’t have–the ability to export my tasks in just about any way I’d like to get it.

That’s huge.  If Remember the Milk crashed like Sandy (Sandy was a good app too that I tried out for one off to do tasks.), where would I be?

Now if none of that convinces you, consider the auto-scheduler feature.  This works when you allocate time for each task.  Then, say you have a spare hour.  Go to your scheduler, select the project (or all projects), the context (at your computer maybe?), and the time you have.  It will build a list of tasks based on your input.  Great if you need a bit of a shove to get going.

There are other bells and whistles that are useful including a notebook a la Evernote feature, file uploads (with the ProPlus account), enhanced history views, and even an option to print a foldable booklet with your tasks.

If you’ve been looking for the ultimate GTD web application, give ToodleDo a try. Photo by gravityx9
