The Barefoot Walking Experience

Posted Mar 20 2010 7:00am
There is this new shoe on the market called " Vibram Five Fingers ". There are many health enthusiasts who are preaching lately that walking barefoot is the better way to be. Walking barefoot connects us and grounds us to nature far better than wearing padded shoes.  My friend and I went to Mountain Co op to buy a pair. They literally are like slippers. It fits much the same on your feet as a glove fits on your hand, or a wet suit may fit on your body.  They have five digits on the shoe so that each of your toes has a place.

It is for folks who want the barefoot experience without having to risk their feet to the dangers of various litter that lives on our Toronto Beaches.  I do have to admit they look really cool.

They do not contain much arch support. Their theory is that normal walking shoes disrupt our natural gait and posture and that by going back to the way it was when we never wore shoes our feet will readjust  to their natural arch.
