Take soy protein to reduce risk of bone fractures

Posted Oct 23 2008 6:33pm
Eat soy protein, exercise more and increase consumption of calcium and vitamin D to retard bone loss. According to the Shanghai Women's Health Study, women who ate the most soy protein had a 37% lower risk of bone fracture as compared to women who ate the least soy, particularly among women in the early years following menopause. Soy protein was also found to have beneficial effects on other symptoms of menopause, may reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease and hormone-related cancers, but may stimulate growth of certain cells that may increase the risk of breast cancer.
