Take a Nap and Celebrate National Sleep Comfort Month

Posted Nov 04 2009 10:00pm

November is the annual celebration of sleep. Welcome to National Sleep Comfort Month. This is a time to contemplate and nap on the importance of sleep.

I honestly don’t think I can come up with a worse malady than not being able to sleep. Sleep is so restorative. I credit sleeping in and napping during the day with finally helping me overcome the swine flu. Consider one other fact. Small animals generally have shorter lifespans. Domesticated rats live about two years. Bats, another mammal, spend part of their lifespan in hibernation. Some species of hibernating bats can live over 20 years. Being able to conserve resources clearly has a benefit.

This month, I encourage you to make a good night’s rest a priority. A recent study by the National Sleep Foundation found that money concerns cause over one-third of Americans to lose sleep. Ironically, during stressful times, we need sleep more than ever. Look for ways to relieve stress. Putting problems in perspective can help you tackle problems more effectively.

Take this month as a challenge to find rituals to help you sleep. Find ways to ease stress, whatever the cause. Enjoy some Zs and wake up refreshed.
