Spring season and allergies

By Carol Harblin (CHHC)

It's Spring season and that means some people may be gearing up for the famous "Achooo" season too. That feeling of watery eyes and congestion. Many people dread those allergy pills because of those nasty effects they may bring....so, what can be done in lieu of those pills?

According to Ayurveda, it's best to avoid the heavy foods like those oily fried foods and even steering clear from dairy and some nuts.

It's also important to drink lots of water and stay well hydrated. A body that is well hydrated will not suffer those allergy symptoms because the body is not dried out.

It's important to eat with the seasons, so if it's Spring time, then it is time to begin to eat fresh vegetables and fruit. But at the same time, you should stay away from dairy. Mixing dairy with the fruit/veg will contradict the potency of the foods thereby creating an imbalance of your dosha within your body.

What can you do to pacify your dosha if you are vata? Drink ginger tea.
You may drink Neem leaf tea to help pacify your pitta dosha as well.

The main key of ridding yourself of the nasty Spring allergies is cleansing your body and detoxifying your body of any allergen or toxin.

Your first step to eating with the Spring season is to go to the farmer's market in your town/city and check out what kinds of fresh veggies and fruits are in store for you!

Enjoy and say good-bye to those Achoooos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
