Molecular Healing: Molecules in Fruits and Vegetables Found to Decrease Alzheimer's Disease

Posted Aug 24 2008 2:14pm
Many of us in the alternative medicine world have been recommending natural substances called bioflavinoids as natural anti-inflammatories. Personally I have had good success with these substances for reducing inflammation and reliance on over the counter and even prescription anti-inflammatories.

Now new research out of the University of South Florida and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has revealed that 2 flavinoid molecules, Luteolin and diosmin may reduce the amyloid plaquing that occurs in the brains of alzheimers patients.

It appears that the flavinoid compounds (that are commonly found in fruits and vegetables) target a protein known as presenilin-1, which is linked to causing Alzheimer's. The result is a reduction in the amyloid plaque.

It may be that simple molecular substances found in plants and available at your local health food store will be used in the treatment of this devastating disease.

Bioflavinoids are available as supplements in health food stores and vitamin shops.
