A recent review of research by Cochrane researchers indicates that music therapy may help with depression. Millions of people suffer from depression with the only treatments being psychotherapy, medications and some herbal substances.
The researchers looked at five studies. Four of these indicated a decrease in symptoms of depression while the fifth did not. The researches concluded that there was enough evidence to warrant further study of the effects of music therapy on depression.
Music is a powerful thing. Sound waves contain information that is processed by our nervous systems and this information in turn effects our minds and bodies. Music has the power to elicit emotions and "move" people. Now it may also have the power to heal.
