A short article in the New York Times reports a small but significant study of 200 patients at high risk for coronary artery disease over a 5 year period. Among those who meditatedthere were 20 heart attacksstokes and deaths. In the control groupthere were 32.
The meditators remained healthy longer and had lower blood pressures.
Dr. Robert SchneiderDirector of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Preventionstates that the stress reduction that accompanies meditation can reduce the production of stress hormones and lessen the inflammatory processes which are associated with atheroschlerosis.
