Is this sweetener healthier to consume than other synthetic sugar substitutes such as aspartame? Aspartame contains toxins that may affect health by causing
• Insomnia.
• Anxiety.
• Mood fluctuations.
• Dizziness.
Many people still continue to consume this sweetener. A healthier sweetening alternative may be Stevia. Stevia was approved a few years ago by the FDA. Stevia is a genus of about 240 species of herbs and shrubs in the sunflower family, native to subtropical and tropical regions in North and South America. Stevia is grown for its sweet leaves and is far sweeter than cane sugar or any other synthetic sweetener produced.
Stevia has not been linked to any known health risks and can be metabolized by the body safely. Stevia has little effect on blood glucose and can enhance glucose tolerance, making it a safe natural sweetener option for diabetics and others on carbohydrate-controlled diets.
