Finally, we put our boat on the water this past weekend. Weather, travel, and repairs all delayed our first launch. Though we both tend to slack off a bit on the exercise during boating season, boating actually made me glad that I exercise.
Saturday was a rough day to be on the water. Winds were 10-20 mph, closer to the 20mph during the day. We were at the launch ramp. Windy days always put my husband in a panic when it comes to boating. This day was no exception. While he parked the car and trailer, I stayed at the dock with the boat, our gorgeous 1972 Winner.
Just then, a pontoon boat full of drunk guys came into the dock area, a rental boat. Well, with the wind and the drink, it was hard for them to manage the boat. One of the guys on board the rental and I fought to keep our boats apart. When the threat had passed, I stood up away from the gunwale. A sudden wave pushed me back. My arm reached for the nearby seat, half falling over.
It was an odd move, unnatural. I don’t know if I can describe the sensation, but it felt like a rubber band stretching out and snapping back into place. For a moment, there was pain and a slight numbness, but it soon abated. I thought I had done something really awful to my shoulder, but it was fine. I attribute it to strong deltoids and triceps from exercise. Sure, it’s a bit sore yet today, just a dull ache, but it’s sure a lot better than wearing an arm sling.
