Fruit = Belly Fat!?

Posted May 04 2009 3:53pm

fat belly Fruit can make you fat and cause type 2 diabetes.

That is the result of a new Swedish study performed by MD Christer Enkvist.

One example is that of a 64-years old woman. She had been treated for type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure for years. She weighed 274 pounds. In 2007 her new doctor suggested that she would stop eating the 2 bananas she had for snack each day.

2 years later she has lost 66 pounds. She stopped her diabetes treatments and her blood pressure medication has been cut down to half. She claims she did not do any other diet or lifestyle changes.

Journal of Clinical Investigation have also published an article on this subject. Their study showed that fructose (the sugar you find in fruit) cause more belly fat than glucose (regular sugar or corn sugar). Even if the same amount of calories is consumed.

Does this mean that we should stop eating fruit?

I still think that fresh fruit is better than most other foods. But if you are eating healthy and still have a weight problem, or find that you have to much belly fat, you might want to consider cutting down on your fruit intake or swapping some of the fruits for fresh vegetables.
