Everything I Learned About Life I Learned While Playing Monopoly

An interesting story comes from BBC news magazine, which suggest that life lessons can be gleaned from playing board games.
As the article suggests, games like Monopoly teach us the the skills we need to succeed in life such as patience. Remember those marathon Monopoly or Life games?
Think of the wonderful interaction in a game like Pictionary where you’re trying to read your partner’s thoughts, hoping they travel the same dark waters that yours do.
I’ve always have been a fan of the traditional board games. Even on my Blackberry, I play my favorites like Scrabble and cribbage. I enjoy the challenge. Sure there’s some luck thrown in for good measure, but there’s still the strategy part of it. You can’t play spades without having some clue about how to plan your next move. As for chess, don’t you have to be a genius to play that game?
With so many movies and games spoon feeding us, it’s refreshing to come back to the classics. Patience. Diplomacy. Strategy. Everything I learned about life, I learned while playing Monopoly. Photo by frankblacknoir
