An important part of my acupuncture treatments was always the prescription of Chinese herbs by my acupuncturists. These herbs often came in "tea pill" form - little tiny dark round balls. They did seem to be extremely helpful. I truly feel the approach used by acupuncturists is very effective - the herbs and the needles really compliment one another.
I just started using Chinese herbs in conjunction with my acupuncture treatments--I can't report the difference in how I feel yet (I'm getting acupuncture and herbs for stress and anxiety), but I've heard their accolades sounded out by most people who take them.
