Causes of gangrene and ulcers in diabetes patients

Posted Oct 23 2008 6:33pm
Diabetes patients can cause blood supply to cells in the body to be restricted and new blood vessels cannot be formed when there is a wound. Because of restriction in blood circulation, diabetes patients, wounds are slow to heal and diabetes patients frequently get gangrene and ulcers in their limbs. The reason could be a certain protein in the body cells. The cell is a protein receptor called p75NTR. This was discovered by Professor Peter Weissberg, of the British Heart Foundation.
