Who isn't stressed, burnt out, exhausted and just feeling run down? Unfortunately, you are probably one of the millions of sufferers from Chronic Fatigue or Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome. There is hope and recovery and treatment is available; it just takes time, rest, supplementation and nourishing the adrenal glands and your body.
I myself am a sufferer and sometimes it is almost debilitating. I have occasional bouts with adrenal stress or adrenal burnout..they are brought on by stress from family or work, long hours, terrible eating habits or even lack of sleep. Luckily, i know how to get myself out of the danger zone and use diet, supplementation, sleep, body therapy and a variety of relaxation techniques to balance my system.
Why do we get adrenal fatigue syndrome? The adrenal glands are located above the kidneys and produce a large number of hormones. The cortex (outer part) produces corticosteroids made from cholesterol, these include cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), aldosterone and the sex hormones, testosterone and estrogen. Cortisol is the major hormone involved in the stress response. Under prolonged stress cortisol levels are elevated, increasing blood pressure a nd blood sugar levels and suppressing the inflammatory response of the immune system. DHEA is thought to counteract the negative effects of prolonged high cortisol levels such as immune suppression and damage to brain cells through over stimulation. DHEA levels decline with age which has caused some people to label it as the master anti-aging hormone. This may or may not be the case but in studies it has certainly been shown to increase energy and feelings of well being. The adrenal medulla (central part) makes adrenaline and noradrenaline, the substances that produce the "fight-or-flight response" when stimulated by the autonomic nervous system, giving that unmistakable short-term burst of energy that enables you to overcome whatever danger is present.
The challenge with out modern lives, our body is in a constant state of "flight-or-fight" and it essentially causes many challenges for our bodies- it may be the cause of some diabetes, heart disease and even infertility. The adrenal glands are key to our health and our happiness.

The Traditonal Chinese Medicine and Functional Medicine Docs are the best, I think too. I have been to so many different kinds of Docs trying to find what felt like it was killing me. The can be very hard to find and unfortunately...few in number. WE need more of THESE types of Docs...I think, too, to get our life back without taking ALL of the medication that normal Docs give us....and that is TOOO much.
I know it is where I am headed to see and he is well-trained...but 2 hours or more away, but after hearing all that I have been dealing with, he offered to make a trip to be closer to me, during a conference or something. He seemed conserned of my well-being and knew that I needed help...fast. Oh, how we need more people that care for others...like this.
I have suffered with Adrenal Fatigue for 6 or more years, with numerous other things like DDD, Spondylosis, Fibromyalgia,Chiari Malformation, Venous Anomally, etc.
I have had surgery on my C5-C6, from having a ruptured petrusion and wound up having an ACD & F spinal diskectomy... that I felt was the problem all along, but now after reading all that I can on Addison's...realized that it could be the culprit of it all. I just pray that I can get my life back to somewhat like it was...or me totally again..."Lord Willing".
God Bless u guys and I hope that anyone who has a wastebasket full of symptoms, will find them a Functional Medicine Doc or Naturopath. :))<3 Karen
