The trace mineral boron is essential to the development of cartilage and bone. However modern food processing and intensive farming methods leave our food sadly lacking in this nutrient.
Researchers have found that boron can appreciably improveosteoarthritis.
In a year double blind, placebo controlled five-year trial researchers found the patients given the boron had a significant improvement in their symptoms. They had less swelling, pain and increased movement compared with the control group. (J Nutr Med 1990; 1: 127-32).
If you are considering a boron supplement, then the recommended dosage is on 3mg tablet daily taken with food.
Caution:
The recommended dosage should not be exceeded, as it can be toxic in high doses.
