Acupuncture and the Expectant Mother

Posted Mar 26 2008 11:30am
I have treated many expectant mothers for the discomforts that come along with pregnancy. Some of these cases have included: back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, morning sickness and sleeplessness. Acupuncture is safe and effective for all of the above. The degree to which each woman heals differs from case to case.

The one concern that some women may have is that there are contraindicated acupuncture points that are not to be used in pregnancy. I want to think that all Licensed Acupuncturists have this knowledge thoroughly ingrained in their heads. Ask your prospective acupuncturist to be sure he/she is familiar with this extremely important concept. He/she should be.

Plan on seeing your acupuncturist two times a week for four to six weeks. After that, you will only need to see him/her as needed. There is no need to feel poorly during this most exciting time in your life.

Thank you for reading.
