The Ultimate Facial Rejuvenation Program or the Cosmetic Acupuncture, a new acupuncture-cum-beauty treatment recently developed by one Virginia Doran, "aims to correct the signs of aging both by local treatment and by treating the underlying causes of why individuals are specifically manifesting the aging process the way they are."
Also known as the "Acupuncture Facelift," the method is supposed to help improve muscle tone and dermal contraction especially in the face and neck. This is by prodding collagen production that is supposed to increase and aid in their dispersal to firm the skin and fill out wrinkles. Bags and sagging around the eyes, face, and neck can be significantly reduced and toned up and metabolism is supposed to improve through this treatment, resulting in reduced puffiness often to the point of elimination.
Acupressure or Shiatsu point (a similar but different method) on the face is said to improve not just the appearance but the health of the whole body while facial massage, certain quarters believe, improve the local circulation of blood and lymph while also flushing out toxins and improving muscle tone and dermal contraction.
It's an interesting alternative to the invasive procedures most people seem to think are necessary for looking/staying young, but from what I've heard, it's not just an in/out procedure but something that requires repeated visits in order to see the results. Acupuncture face lifts, or facial rejuvenation, are really nothing new, but a time-honored procedure that has beauty and youth as a nice byproduct.
My acupuncturist told me that she had a client who was in her 60s come in for an acupuncture "face lift." The results were so dramatic people thought she had gotten a real face lift, and she had to get new headshots taken (she was an actress). I do have a lot of people thinking I am much younger than I am and I wonder if part of that has to do with the acupuncture I used to get regularly.
