My mother recently passed away from cardiac arrest from a bowel perforation.
The week beforehand she had a new laparoscopic surgery (only 1 incision, she was the 26th person ever to have this surgery) to remove polyps from her colon. She had the surgery on Monday, they sent her home on Wednesday.
She never felt great but a side from , what we thought, was incision pain, she didn't have any symptoms other than what was listed as normal. She died at home in our care a week later.
My question is, can the doctor who perforated her bowel be held responsible? Is it worth pursuing? We were asked if she had signed anything taking the responsibility of all risks off the hospital. We aren't sure.
We are so sad, upset and angry. I want her to be remembered, not just as a statistic. I don;t want this to happen to anyone else.
