I had 41 years of perfect normal hearing, then suddenly deaf in just a few months following treatment with Gentamicin and Vancomycin, ototoxic, aninoglycoside antibiotics. Now I'm learning to "listen" again via Cochlear Implants which are a substitute for hearing via direct electrical stimulation of the auditory nerves.
