What would case pain in stomach area?

While driving to work this morning I leaned over to get something in the passenger seat and pain shot through my side.  The right side of my stomach area, head my hip is very sore, even to the touch.  I am not sure if it is just a sore muscle or something more serious.  Its getting to the point that it is very annoying, burning/itching pain.
