what causes sereve cramping in the legs and feet?

my legs and feet will cramp up so bad that  even strecthing them will cause it. somtimes it makes my foot want to turn up sideways and i can't walk on it. also i get severe cramps from the groin area to the knee.  i get these cramps in my legs alot and then they are really sore and tender to touch.   please help
