The reason I'm alive? This guy.

Recently published, a new autobiography from Daniel S. J. Choy, M.D. details a life of medical discovery and travel: Choy's Luck: Shanghai to New York, a Life of Inventions, Medicine, and Adventure *

Originally from China (he arrived in the U.S. alone at age 15) and now a Manhattan-ite, Dr. Choy is the man credited with the first successful treatment of Wegener's granulomatosis (thank you!). If that isn't enough to get you interested in his life, try this: he's the inventor of laser spine surgery and one of the first doctors to propose the existence of three hearts in squid and other mollusks.

Now there's some Trivial Pursuit worth for you.

*Better World Books seems to be out of stock of this book, so try here for now: amazon.com
