Post-race or mid-heart attack?

Posted Dec 02 2008 2:01am
Across the board, doctors have found that blood tests following strenous exercise are “likely to show abnormalities, maybe even indicators of a heart attack or liver failure.” Whoa.

No one is quite sure why exercise draws such strange lab results, but the answer may lie in the immune system's responses involving inflammation—such as temporary skeletal muscle injury (which happens post-marathon for instance).

So what does that mean for those of us who are both constantly exercising and having their blood tested? Who knows, but you can bet it's a good idea to let your doctor whether you just lightly worked out or swam from Alcatraz.
