Numbness and Pain in Right arm

My Fiance' has been having problems slleping at night because his right arm goes numb and hurts and he says that it feels like his right middle finger isswollen, but its not. this only occurs at night and can go on for the whole night. He has recently started a new job that requires heavy countinuous lifting and i was wondering if it may be a pinched nerve.
