Hi, friends,
FIRST – The was temporarily undergoing some kind of updates from the hosting company, Ning this morning. I have no idea what, but other Ning sites are down temporarily too. it is back up now, but this may happen occasionally as they are updating their services. I just wanted to let you know I do know about it but have no control over it.
Anyway! I hope that June brings you moments filled with joy, even if you have to create some yourself.
Lisa's son
I have a tendency to kill plants, and so I have finally learned my lesson and on my patio hangs a beautiful silk red geranium which has lasted through two winters now in San Diego and still fools people who wonder how I water it when it hangs so high.
Looking around my patio this season, I wanted to enjoy it and feel like it was my own little oasis. But everything was sun-bleached or damaged from rain and I didn’t want to spend a great deal of money that I don’t have on more decorations. So I went to the store and bought five cans of paint in bright blue, lime green, hot pink, and orange. Everything that doesn’t move has received a fresh coat of paint and I now feel as though I have brightened up the place with a tropical feeling. I am trying to resist the idea that I would love new cushions and be satisfied with what I have.
Create your own joy–even if it comes out of a can.
Here are some updates about my crazy life and Rest Ministries.
Personally Speaking
My days have been filled with…
- swimming lessons for my son
- doctors appointments to try to start a new medication
- recovering from not sleeping the night before
- frustration over my hands and previous joint replacement surgery
- working on ministry blog posts for the future and updating the website
- taking Josh to karate, and figuring out his camps for the summer
- IEP meetings and parent teacher meetings at my son’s school
- I canceled a bone density test today because I am flaring too badly to lay in any machine if it’s not necessary
- Comforting my kiddo. Sadly, my son discovered last night his best friend of three years (which is a lifetime when your only 7 years old) across the street is moving.
Devotionals
I have good news that in the next few days we really should have devotionals up and running through the AWeber service. I will let you know as soon as they are activated but right now I have a few last tweeks to make and then will test it.
Web Site Status
We have successfully transferred all of the website to a new host now, and although there are still a few things that are taking longer to load, I hope to have those fixed soon. Here are a few things on the Rest Ministries website that I’ve done that I hope will make it easier for you to navigate:

We have a cute tote bag, button, cap, and darling coin purse that has a scripture on the back.
Book Still On Sale
Remember that book I mentioned in our last newsletter, When The Doctor Has Bad News ? Well, no one bought it. Not 1 person. Which I totally “get” because times are financially tough for many of us, but it really IS a GREAT book, so if you are recently diagnosed and looking for a Christian doctor to walk you through all those emotions, I really do LOVE this book, When the Doctor Has Bad News by Al. b. Weir . (You can see the table of contents with that link too.) And it is still on sale for just $10. I also connected with someone on Facebook who knows Dr. Weir and I wants to put us in touch, so maybe I can interview him soon.
Lots of travel tips
Traveling This Summer?
- I will be attending the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) conference at the end of June and St. Louis. This is a group of Christian women authors and speakers and I consider it my personal retreat each year. I am eager and excited to go, and will be doing a workshop on Internet marketing. However, this is my first venture on a plane since I went two years ago, so I am hoping the edema and other health issues will be under control.
- I recently wrote an article about traveling with a chronic illness and it was featured in today’s issue of the Patients for a Moment Blog Carnival . It has some wonderful tips and resources (and my insider tips if Disenyland is in your plans.) I’d love for you to share your own tips in the comments section so others can benefit too.
Interested in Adoption Issues or . . . ‘Selling More Books?’
If you are blessed by adoption or an author, you may be interested in the other websits I have where I basically just share my journey to help others save maybe some time and money. These are at Scrapbook My Adoption and You Can Sell More Books .
Who Won The MP3 Player?
As I ended up with over 1100 “friends” on Facebook I couldn’t keep track of everyone so I created a “ Rest Ministries Fan Page ” (which Facebook then changed to call them “like pages”). If you “unfriended me” (sounds so harsh, huh?) and signed up over at our Fan Page you were entered to win an MP3 player. Well, our winner is Beth C.! (I’ve emailed you, Beth, to get your postal address.)
Reflections
As I was writing out this newsletter using my voice program, I said the word “prayer” and the program typed the word “repair.” The words that the program substitutes often create a bit of irony in the meaning and this is one that caught my attention. After all, there is a great deal of relationship between prayer and repair.
Occasionally I look up scriptures using The Message just for a conversational style scripture that sounds like my prayer to God in words I may use. I particularly like this one, Psalm 119:73.
It says,
With your very own hands You formed me; now breathe Your wisdom over me so I can understand You. When they see me waiting, expecting Your Word, those who fear You will take heart and be glad. I can see now, God, that Your decisions are right; Your testing has taught me what’s true and right. Oh, love meand right now!hold me tight! just the way You promised. Now comfort me so I can live, really live; Your revelation is the tune I dance to. Let the fast-talking tricksters be exposed as frauds; they tried to sell me a bill of goods, but I kept my mind fixed on Your counsel. Let those who fear You turn to me for evidence of Your wise guidance. And let me live whole and holy, soul and body, so I can always walk with my head held high.

Did you miss something at our web site? Here is a list of articles below that are recent.
You can also find our entire archive of articles here: Rest Ministries Site Index (To find this on our web site hold your cursor over the “About” Button and then choose “Site Index.” It also lists devotionals! To find something specific, on your Internet toolbar choose “Edit” then “Search” or “Find” and type in a keyword that should be in the title.
On a personal note, thank you to all of you who wrote and offered names and emails of people who do web design work or programming. At the time I had gotten caught up and decided to make the switch to a new hosting company that took care of everything complimentary. But I kept all your kind emails and names for the future. I also received a few emails from you saying “thank you!” and “hang in there” – Those keep me going on days like today when I am flaring badly and would just rather crawl back under the covers right now.
Warmly in Christ,
Lisa
