I’ve been cleaning… going through the piles of clutter that seem to accumulate in every room. One of the items I ran across was two pairs of eye glasses from a few years past. My new ones have frames I like better and my prescription has changed.
I thought I remembered reading about places to donate the glasses so I got online and found one! I thought I would pass it along to you in case you also have used glasses that could help someone.
The Lions Club accepts donations of used eye glasses and then passes these on to missionaries and others who go to countries such as Nicaragua where people line up thousands at a time to wait for a pair of glasses. The Lions club gives them to an organization called VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity).
They also accept sunglasses, reading glasses, and during one trip they brought more than 1,100 eyeglass cases hand sewn by a local quilting guild in Newport, Maine.
You can see if there is a local drop off place near you at the Lion’s Club website. (Surprisingly, there wasn’t anything in the San Diego area.) So I am sending mine directly to them at
Lion’s Certified Collection Centers 1734 Divisadero Street San Francisco, CA 94115
The Lion’s Certified Collection Centers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization so you can also request a receipt because your glasses are a tax-deductable donation. Click here for more information.
When we don’t feel well or we don’t have extra money sitting around, it’s easy to think we can’t help others. . . but look around. You may be surprised what “goodies” you have in your home that could change the life of someone else if you can get it into their hands. Even something as simple as a pair of old eye glasses.
“Now then, stand still and see this great thing the LORD is about to do before your eyes!” (1 Samuel 12:16)
Do you have something you donate to an organization on a regular basis? Do you think you will donate some old glasses? I’d love to hear how you are making a difference in even the little ways!
