Our next letter in THRIVE is I – Inspiring – meaning to produce or arouse (a feeling, thought, etc.): to inspire confidence in others. To guide or control by divine influence; to give rise to, bring about, cause. To infuse (breath, life, etc.) by breathing; to breathe into or upon. To prompt or instigate by influence.
We all have been inspired by something that a pastor, teacher, or friend might have said, or even have read in a book or blog post. When we hear or read something that inspires us it seems to produce a spark of thought or feeling within us to possibly act upon the inspiration. Every time I read the Word of God something seems to always jump off the page and into my heart breathing new life within my spirit. (2 Timothy 3:16).
When we are inspired there is usually a sense of excitement within us that cause us to act upon the inspiration. Every time I attend a Christian conference or retreat I am inspired to share what I have learned. It’s as though new life has been breathed into me refreshing, renewing, and reviving me to go forth to inspire others. Inspiration is contagious it brings excitement and causes a stir within that you just cannot keep to yourself.
Our spiritual inspiration comes from none other than God, Jesus said, “But when the Father sends the Counselor as my representative – and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit – he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you.” John 14:26
The Spirit’s mission is to speak the Word of truth by teaching, guiding, and inspiring us to become more like Christ.
"When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not be presenting his own ideas; he will be telling you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future."John 16:13
"for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:21
When we become inspired it is our mission to inspire others; not for our own glory, but for the glory of God. "for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit…". Mark 12:36
"A wise teacher's words spur students to action and emphasize important truths. The collected sayings of the wise are like guidance from a shepherd." Ec 12:11
The apostle Paul encourages Timothy to, “fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave” him (2 Tim. 1:6). Paul was encouraging Timothy to persevere, be encouraged, stay steadfast, and hold onto the truth and the gifts that he was given so he could boldly step out in faith and proclaim the gospel and inspire others to do the same. Timothy and Paul had the same Holy Spirit as we do today. May we daily allow the Holy Spirit the freedom to give us the power and strength we need to inspire.
As Christians, we are to live life abundantly. We are to THRIVE! When you have a plant that thrives, it is overflowing and the pot can no longer contain the plant. The same goes for abundant living in Christ. The Spirit within us should be overflowing with inspiration from God that we desire to share the good news and inspire others.
“Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders. From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy.” Psalm 65:8
