Can We Have an Abundant Life While Living with Chronic Illness?

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

Abundance. It’s a common theme this time of year.

I know that I have days when I feel I’m at a deficit in most things–in health, in funds, in choices, in abilities. But the truth is, I have abundance. I have life to the full.

Because of Christ.

Abundant comfort.

“For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:5)

Abundance to share.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)

Abundant grace.

“The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinnersof whom I am the worst.” (1 Timothy 1:14-15)

And we owe Him . . .

Abundant praise.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Prayer: Dear God, you are the God of abundance. Thank You for the plentiful fullness you offer us each day. Please help us to see it even on the days that we struggle. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

We have been many things in our life, but we have never been unloved. We may have felt unloved, but we have not been. This song by Michael W.
