well the answer is yes it can , the chances are its not the culprit but if you look around for info, CO is so damn deadly and injurious to you, even in the 1 part per million range, yes thats the latest info, permanently damages your heart muscle with toxicity, why on earth would you drive through a cloud of it for hours?
I guess you got two options , be a mean SOB and pay someone else to be poisoned in your place or fix your mower so the exhaust goes way way out the back, and well accept the fact your still probably doing yourself some harm but much much less harm then you are now, if you dont have the same pains you can bet you were getting enough to cause it either directly or via acidosis oxy deprivation while working the muscles , which ever it cant be good.

Every summer I suffer greatly from overall body pain. I mow a large yard that takes hours of mowing, at a time. The exhaust from my tractor is out the front so that I am driving into the fumes. I have speculated for a long time that this may be the cause of my troiuble. Several doctors have not been able to help me. My lmuscles, joints and even my bones hurt, most especially after I mow. The severe pain lasts for days.
