On December 26th I introduced a new study I am going to do regarding the Attributes of God. I have been convicted by my LORD that I need to come before His presence more often. Not just those short, "Lord help me today..." prayers. But truly come before His presence and grab a hold of His garment and not let go! To accomplish this, I have decided to do a study on the attributes of God... Jehovah and His names and their meaning. On Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays I will post about an attribute God. I believe that if I am reminded of his character, attributes...who He is... or who I AM is... then I will desired to come before His presence more often. I will want to cling to the hem of His garment and not let go! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Getting To Know You Have you ever watched the musical “The King and I”? There is a song/scene in the movie where Miss Anna sings, “Getting to Know You”. The lyrics are:
Getting to know you, getting to know all about you.Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me.Getting to know you, putting it my way,But nicely,You are precisely,My cup of tea.Getting to know you,Getting to feel free and easyWhen I am with you,Getting to know what to sayHaven't you noticedSuddenly I'm bright and breezyBecause of all the beautiful and newThings I'm learning about youDay – by- day.
This is a happy care free song full of truths. There have been many surveys done over the years asking people if they believe there is a God. Majority of American do believe that the only explanation for most things is the existence of a God. But when asked, “Do you know God personally?” many would admit that having a personal and intimate relationship with God is something they have never thought about or would even be possible.
Not only is it possible, but it is essential for our eternal future! Jesus said, “And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent” (John 17:3). Knowing God and His Son Jesus is the heart of the whole matter of eternal life. The word know in this verse does not refer to a casual acquaintance either. It is the kind of knowledge that comes through living contact and personal relationship. If knowing God is that important, maybe we ought to talk about how we can get to know Him.
In order to truly know someone we must first know something about them; what they like, who they think, how they would act under certain circumstances. This can only happen though if that person reveals themselves to us.
If I want to get to know you, I need to make myself available to you, reach out to you in a friendly way, and show an interest in you. But that will accomplish very little unless you are willing to reveal yourself to me. You are the key. You decide whether or not I will ever get to know you. If you want me to know you, you will open up and tell me about yourself—what you are thinking, what you really believe, what you are feeling. You will be yourself in my presence, that is, act in a normal manner consistent with your true personality. You won’t put on airs, wear a facade, mask your true self, or always put your best foot forward.
