Healing from Chronic Illness

Posted Mar 13 2013 1:56am

A chronic illness is an illness that lasts for months, years, decades or even a lifetime. Millions of people suffer from a chronic disease that severely impacts their quality of life. Are you one of them? The key to healing from chronic illness is getting to the root cause of the problem instead of just masking the symptoms.

Common Chronic Diseases

There are dozens of chronic diseases in the medical books and almost all of them boil down to chronic inflammation.

Common chronic diseases include:

  • Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Celiac disease
  • Diabetes
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Anemia
  • Lyme disease
  • Sciatica

Healing from Chronic Illness

When it comes to treating chronic illness with conventional medicine, the treatment you receive will depend largely on your diagnosis. You may be given antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, steroids, or anti-depressants to suppress the symptoms and keep your immune system from attacking itself.

The problem with this approach is it does nothing to address the underlying cause of chronic illness. While you’re taking these pharmaceutical drugs, there is still serious damage going on in your body. This is where you come in. There are things you can do at home to help your body heal from chronic illness.

  • Dietary Changes

The cornerstone of health is diet. It’s that simple. If you want to heal from any chronic disease, you must eat healthy. You cannot eat processed (junk) food anymore.

Throw that stuff away immediately and load up on healing foods such as organic vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, organic poultry, fish, and healthy fats such as butter, coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado.

Cutting gluten and lactose products from your diet for a period of 6-8 weeks can also do wonders in healing your chronic pain and inflammation.

Corn and soy are two other common contributors to inflammation as the large majority of them are genetically-modified, which means each time you eat them, you’re ingesting pesticides.

  • Whole Food Supplements

Many health-conscious people take vitamin supplements every day to stay health. Unfortunately, many store-bought vitamins are anything but healthy. They contain additives and preservatives that make chronic pain much worse.

To get the health benefits you need from the nutrition supplements you take, you must take whole food supplements only. Whole food supplements are derived from food sources, which means your body can easily absorb them.

  • Toxin Removal

You live in a world of toxins, it’s no wonder you’re suffering from chronic illness. Each time you clean your home or bathe, you’re getting a high dose of neurotoxins into your system. Bleach, formaldehyde, parabens, and phthalates do serious damage to your health. To help your body heal from chronic disease, switch to all-natural housecleaning products and cosmetics.

  • Sleep

In order to stay healthy, you must get enough sleep. Most adults need at least 7 hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep per night. When you’re living with a chronic illness, you need much more. If pain and anxiety is keeping you up at night, try adding a chelated magnesium supplement to your diet. Magnesium is responsible for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. It helps improve your neurological health, eases anxiety, and can help lessen your pain.

You don’t have to live with the debilitating pain of chronic illness. Your body has serious healing capabilities. Once you start making some necessary lifestyle choices, you can get almost any chronic disease under control.
