Reflexology works on the premise that certain areas of the hand and foot – known as reflex points – relate to specific parts of the body eg. the glands, the heart or the reproductive system. Stimulation of these points by finger or thumb pressure helps fine tune targeted areas by unblocking nerve impulses and improving the blood supply. The deep manipulative treatment is also designed to release toxin build-up, improve lymph drainage and strengthen the immune system. The whole effect is a gentle balancing of the body and its systems.

Reflexology is thought to have been practised by the Egyptians – as seen by wall paintings at the t omb of Ankhmahor at Saqqara , Egypt – the Chinese, Native American, Mayan and Incan civilisations. The modern form has its origins in Zone Therapy developed by Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, M.D in the early 1900’s and further developed by Dr. Shelby Riley, M.D and Eunice Ingham in the 1930's.

Reflexology generally eases stress and creates a state of relaxation in the receiver.
