I’m in a little twilight zone at the moment.
I had a severe migraine attack last week. Since I had been unwell and “unwellness” was only getting worse like snowball effect, I give up figuring out what caused the attack.
It seems I get the severe migraine attack at least once a year… It feels like it is much more than just migraine and it lasts for 3 to 4 days. When I first had the severe attack, I feared I was dying from stroke or heart attack. It comes with not just severe pain that feels like my head is splitting, but also nausea, vertigo, transient paralysis, loss of muscle strength, photophobia, and so on. It also exacerbates from the heat, getting up and/or with bright light. I’m sure my cognitive function was disturbed severely, although I didn’t have anybody to interact with to confirm it. When I suffer this much and nobody knows about it makes me feel extremely lonely as well.
Nausea was extra severe this time. (It reminded me when I did cold turkey on antidepressants.) I couldn’t eat for two days, yet I threw up couple of times.
I don’t like taking stronger painkiller, because just one tablet put me in zombie status. But I took few tablets because the pain was just too severe to cope. It calmed down the pain a little, but didn’t help the other symptoms. I consider myself a person with higher pain threshold. But, when it comes to migraine, I just cannot tolerate it.
I seriously considered cancelling the medical appointment on Tuesday. However, Dr TL often surprised me with help he can give. Even if there is nothing, I always feel stronger when I talk with him. And he always wants to see the symptoms in person to give the right treatment. So, I put extra efforts and went.
He gave me injection for migraine, and gave prescription of oral migraine medicine to prepare for the future attack. I didn’t know there is an injection and medicine for migraine. Once again, he surprised me with the help he gave.
It took me over night for the injection to take effect. If I didn’t have the injection, I would suffered for another couple of days or longer.
The rest of migraine symptoms slowly disappeared. But it left me with Post Migraine Malaise as in Post Exertional Malaise. It is taking a few more days to recover from the after effect of migraine attack.
Last night, I finally felt strong enough to get back on the rehabilitation exercise. My balance is really bad at the moment. My cognitive function is still suffering. But, I feel I’m slowly coming back to my usual self. And it is such a great relief to feel that way.
