When I almost gave up an idea of getting a good heater this winter, I saw a listing of a huge Omega oil heater on eBay.
It has 16 fins. The ordinary large oil heater has 11 fins. My bed room heater has 11 fins, but it is not good enough for living room when temperature drops. My house is a cold house in winter, and a hot house in summer… So, 16 fins seemed rather promising. It looked old, but the seller mentioned that it works well. It has two power settings, thermostat and a timer. It was for pick up. I checked the area with Google map. It was about 25 min drive from my area and most of the time, I would be driving on the motor way. For me, driving on the motor way is easy. There is no traffic lights. Every car goes same direction at the same speed.
I bid for it to test my fate. If the price goes higher than my budget, the heater is not meant to be mine. Surprisingly, I won the auction on Saturday evening while it was below my budget. I decided to pick it up on Sunday afternoon. Traffic should be less on weekend. And I prefer to do it before I start worrying about my energy level and other trivial things.
The seller’s suburb was very hilly. There were curvy roads on steep hills going up and down. It also seemed to be developing area and there were streets that weren’t on my map. Occasionally, I had a glimpse of stunning view. People were enjoying afternoon walk in treed streets. I ended up at the entrance of Koala sanctuary entrance by accident. Before I got very sick with ME/CFS, I enjoyed these accidental discoveries. But today, I had to watch and estimate my energy reserve very carefully.
The seller was humble and friendly. Prior to the pick up, I had requested to help me carry the heater fro me. Her husband loaded the heavy heater on back seat of my car and buckled seatbelt around it. He insisted that I should load it in the car boot. But the boot was occupied by my wheelchair and there is no space for anything else.
She was worried that I don’t have anybody to help with the heater when I got back. She was trying to come up with some idea that I don’t have to carry the heavy heater. To make her feel easy, I told her that I would put it on my wheelchair and push it to inside.
She was also curious what is wrong with me. Probably, the fact I have nobody to help me concerned her… I briefly explained that I am weak and my energy level is very low. She asked if I had a blood test done. I almost rolled my eyes. I didn’t want to tell her the detail because it might make her feel uncomfortable. And most of the time, people are not really interested. She just wanted to offer some advice out of kindness.
I managed to get back onto the motor way. Once I was on the familiar motor way, the driving home was smooths.
Heater was settled in my living room. It is a nice good heater and producing toasty and oatsy heat.
I hope this will make my friends proud, who supported me when I got the dead heater from other eBay seller.

Problem with my place is that there is no insulation. Even though I have the most powerful heater I could possibly have, I still feel cold. Heat doesn’t stay. And cold air manages to invade.
Good news is that my flirty gardener wants to organise a free ceiling insulation for me. Recently, Australian government introduced $1,600 rebate for home insulation. However, it is only $1,000 for rental property. The balance should be paid by the landlord, if a tenant wants to have it done. I believe my gardener wants to grab as many customer as possible. I asked him to give me a letter that states he would install it free for me with the landload’s permission, then I can convince the estate agent and the landlord with the letter. He is coming to mow the lawn this Friday, and will measure the house as well.
I don’t expect the installation would be done soon. At least, I can hope that next winter will be bit cosier.
