Today's secret word is teamwork. I think it goes well with the Olympic coverage that I've been staying up late to watch. I wonder whether they scheduled the gold medal beach volleyball games at 11pm just to ensure that I would spend the last few days as a sleep-deprived zombie. Anyway, I bring up beach volleyball only partly because it's super-cool and fun to watch. And partly because the US won gold in both the men's and women's events. But mostly because the incredibly dominant women's team of Misty May-Traenor and Kerri Walsh is an amazing demonstration of sports teamwork. So when the announcer told us that Misty May (sorry, it's impossible to write "Misty" without following it by "May") respects the team element so much that she refuses to vote for or accept individual awards, I couldn't help but be impressed by her commitment to the team. The funny thing is that this concept of teamwork is one that can work very well with boys in school. Just as in sports, boys understand the concepts of working extra hard to help your team and of not wanting to let the team down. Thus, teachers who use teams (not groups, which is a different thing altogether) with the boys in their class might find that boys who struggled with motivation to do well might find a little something extra when the fate (and respect) of their team is on the line. And with that, I'll give you today's video. (On teamwork, of course, what else?)
