After my daughter died unexpectedly 2 years ago, we began raising my grandson. He has been in the same daycare for the entire time and up until the last couple of months had done wonderfully with his adjustment. Recently he has begun hitting, throwing things, screaming out, totally misbehaving.... He does not show these same behaviors at home. (Home however consists of myself, my husband, my 16 yr. old daughter and my grandson.)
We have talked to him, reinforced that his behavior is unacceptable, discussed consequences, followed though with the consequences such as removal of his tv time, toys being put up, time outs and nothing seems to be working.
Could this be a delayed reaction to loosing his Mommy? We have a wall in his room that has their pictures, and reminders of her... We talk about her as he wants to and remind him of how much she loved him. He knows that he is loved and safe in our home as we constantly remind him.
Any thoughts/suggestions woudl be much appreciated.
